How busy is your back yard?

They all ran when I came out with my camera......

"Little planets" with a twist

The weather remains yukky, but I went out yesterday and shot a series of images at Lake Griffy to see my pano head and hugin in action in the "real world".  Below is the "unreal" world.  The first image is a red/green anaglyph.
Click on the image to enlarge it.  Below is the standard side by side stereo view.

My wife says "it's certainly not interesting" and "it looks like a tennis ball". Oh well......

The garage in winter....

Well, it's too cold to go outside and take panoramas.  After finishing up my panorama head I'm itching to take some photos and see how it works.  In addition, I have the new hugin software and presumably it will not have the same hangups as before.  I took this panorama in my garage yesterday.  The rug in the very center is pasted in.

Let's share

We decided that this was too good a shot to not share!  There were actually three woodpeckers working on the suet in the front yard, but by the time I got my camera one had left.

Jack Frost

I took these several years ago but it was difficult to appreciate until I tweaked the contrast etc. with Photoshop.  The windows were in one of the stairwells in the Chemistry Building at IU.  I would guess that someone had the humidity too high (it always was!).

The actual width of the images above is about two feet or more!

Last jigsaw of the holiday season

We are now totally tired of working jigsaw puzzles!  This one was large, but not a bad scene.  What is amazing is that we did three puzzles this year and had no missing pieces.

Symmetry is fun

I snapped the photo below of the skipper butterfly in late October, but since I already had one on my blog I didn't use it.  I decided that I kind of liked the horizontal symmetry in the photo and decided to go ahead and play with it.  Since I am a crystallographer, I am not used to five-fold symmetry!

Another one?

This one was a one-dayer.  I was going to try to scan it to see if it looked better than a simple photograph, but I dropped it when I was trying to carry it downstairs...   Oh well.

Welcome to 2011!

Some things aren't worth saving, but should probably be remembered.  One of our holiday activities for years has been to work a jigsaw puzzle.  We picked this one up at the Dollar Tree.  Not only was it difficult, it was not very colorful.  A little work on hue and saturation in Photoshop helped, but not much.  We will probably work one more before we declare an end to the holidays!

For those interested, the puzzle (only 750 pieces) took four days.   It took so long because it was ugly.  This is the first time in years that we completed one with no missing pieces!
