What are you staring at?

I shot this picture about a block down the street and the deer didn't seem to mind me a bit!  Unlike the ones in my back yard (or garden) she didn't take off when I saw her.  I think the expression on her face is saying "hey, this ain't your garden so bug off!"

Hmmmmm...

I was walking around the neighborhood this morning when I came across this.  I confess, I would never of though of doing it....

Backyard Birds--2

One of my favorite visitors to the feeders is the cute little Black-capped Chickadee.  While I don't see many of them during the summer they start showing up in the fall and entertain me all winter.

Backyard Birds--1

I think I will make a collection of different birds visiting my bird feeders to see how many I can catch.  Choosing a male Cardinal, the "state bird" of Indiana as the first seems appropriate.

Goose Pond in the fall

We visited Goose Pond last week to see if there was any activity.  While I didn't expect to see much there were actually an amazing number of waterfowl present..  We couldn't get close enough to get any really good photos, but these shots give a hint of the activity (click on the images to enlarge).  What I did find interesting is the enormous "cracks" in the ground on the various dikes they have put in.  I see them in the garden and around the house during dry weather, but these cracks were up to 2 1/2 inches wide!  Boy do we need rain.

Foxtail grass

While some people consider Foxtail grass a nuisance weed, I really think it is pretty.  It is certainly as good looking as some of the stuff they make you pay for at the nursery.  This photo was shot during the Gnaw Bone trip last week.  You can see an old piece of rusty farm equipment in the background.

"Tired" flowers.

It is interesting how something as simple as a bunch of wildflowers can make an otherwise ugly area look lovely!  I guess you could say that these flowers are "tired".
